I know there are a lot of creative people out there, so please help me with the Sweet 16 party planning!!!
No, I'm not planning the girls' sweet 16s...yet. Well, maybe I might as well.

If you are my cousin with the initials of LY, stop reading right now!!! I mean it!
My cousin is turning 16 in October, and my sister and I are planning her Sweet 16 birthday party. (Yes, my little sister who is planning her wedding, and still moving into her new house, and has an added 7 extra students in her K class this year due to low enrollment so they cut the other K class, who volunteers at church working with the youth.)
I'm giving you one more chance to stop reading LY!!
It's going to be a Yellow/Initial Party. What the heck does that mean? There's not really a theme, but things will be coordinated in yellow and white. We're thinking a mix of bright yellow and pastel yellow with white. And a focus on her initial - L. This is going to be a brunch, and we might rent out a rec center...might be one with a swimming pool.
Yellow FoodsInitialPhoto garland like this with a photo from each year of her life.
Favors - (but in yellow, and we don't know what's going to go inside)
Mini Candy Buffet?
Tennis Cupcakes? - or
one of theseOther ideas I had were to have guests, of course, wear something yellow in their outfit, and write 16 memories that they have had with her, which we'll put into a yellow photo album/scrapbook, hopefully we can find one with her initial on it??
Other random ideas:
lemon meringue cake
lemonade/pineapple juice
something with sunshine?
daffodils/yellow roses/sunflowers?
yellow jello
If anyone has any ideas, suggestions, advice, please send them this way!! October is going to be crazy....I'll update on that later...and I'm still on hiatus...sort of...but not really...because I need ideas and you want updates right? Right? Okay, just checkin'.
Oh, and some other things about my cousin, if it'll help you give me ideas to incorporate...she loves animals, music, and tennis.
Music suggestions would be great too, as I have no idea what teenagers are listening to these days. And it has to be clean, thanks.
Update: We're renting a game room at the rec center. (Not sure what's in the game room, but my guess is pool table, Foosball, air hockey???) Another idea was to put up a yellow tablecloth or blanket-type thing, with yellow props for a photo area. What should I wear to this shindig? Granted, I'm not 16 anymore, but I'm still in my 20s (at least for another year...okay, half a year but who's counting?). I don't want to look 16, but I also don't want to look motherly (yes, I know I'm a mom of 2). My cousin is still working on her guest list so I'm not sure who is invited. I think my sister and I will be the oldest ones there. haha

It would be super cool if you could get/make something like this for her birthday cake (scroll down to the yellow/beachy one).. in yellow AND using her initial. You can find them for pretty good prices on wedding websites and I bet you could even make a pretty awesome one with a trip to the craft store. I went to a baby shower once where we were all given scrapbook supplies at the party and we made a page for mom & baby. That'd be cool to ask friends to bring pics of them with your cousin and you provide the supplies because I think sixteen memories is a lot. I'm not sure if they even still make them, but at a wedding I went to once, the guest book was an empty scrapbook, a polaroid camera and a marker. VERY FUN! You can also personalize M&M's in yellow & white with her picture on them or "L's Sweet 16" for guests to much on or take home as a party favor. So many fun things! I wanna plan tooooo!
yellow pepper salad with baby green leaves, small potato pieces, mustard and honey dressings....egg fried rice, mango juice, orange juice, could make a punch/fruit salad out of oranges, peaches, mango, pineapple and mandarins
or you could make cupcakes with yellow icing made into a sun, sunshine, tennis balls, flowers....or pumkin soup(?!) with bread and yellow butter...
as for the 'L', you can buy cut out wooden alphabets in craft shops and they normally do different sizes, esp from big branded shops. you can stick them on anything like boxes or photo albums. you might also wanna pick up some yellow tissue papers. at this time of year, they might still have a sale for easter stuff and they tend to have yellow in them...so hunt around. yellow little chicks are common items in these sales.
music, ok, maybe something summer and cheerful to go with the yellow theme - walking on sunshine, taylor swift - love story, K.T. Tunstall - suddenly i see, what a wonderful world (joey ramone version - its more rock and roll), McFly - all about you, Take That - Shine, Friends theme song(?).....these are the more clean songs i know...some of them are by British artists so i don't know if you guys will know it.
i'll let u know if i can think of anymore...this is a good challenge for a dull day :)
yellow paper lanterns
yellow cake with white icing and make yellow flag toppers
if it's going to be brunch you can use potato bread since it's got a yellowish hue
what other ideas are youlook for? more for decor or food ideas?
photo anything u have in yellow for us to see. :)
@PetiteMandoo@xanga - more decor and how to set up the space, but i don't even know how that game room looks.
